This page explains what personal information Amir Travel & Tours collects through our bookings, enquiry form and chat assistant, why, and how it’s protected, in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
Amir Travel & Tours is the travel division of Amir Group, based in Morningside, Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. For the personal information described on this page we are the responsible party under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
To arrange travel on your behalf, we may collect: your full name, contact details, identity or passport number, date of birth, nationality, travel preferences, and payment information necessary to complete a booking. For international travel and visa applications, additional supporting documents may be required.
When you use our enquiry form we collect your name, phone or WhatsApp number, email address, trip type, destination, preferred dates and whatever you choose to tell us about your trip. When you use our chat assistant we collect the messages you type and the page you were on. Please do not type card numbers, passport numbers, ID numbers or passwords into the chat; the assistant will not ask for them and neither will our team. Our servers also record basic technical information, such as IP address, browser type and the pages visited.
Your information is used to respond to your enquiries and chat messages, prepare your personalised quote, book flights and accommodation, process visa or documentation requirements, communicate with you about your trip, and meet legal or regulatory obligations tied to travel bookings. We do not collect more than a specific booking reasonably requires.
Our chat assistant is automated. It is powered by Amir Group’s AI platform, which uses AI service providers to understand your question and draft a reply, and it can hand you over to one of our consultants. Its replies are general information, not a quotation or a booking, and anything important is confirmed by a consultant. Our team may review chat conversations to follow up on your enquiry and to keep the assistant accurate.
Booking travel necessarily involves sharing relevant information with airlines, accommodation providers, tour operators, insurance providers, and, where applicable, embassies or visa processing agencies. We only share what each party genuinely needs to fulfil your booking.
We also use service providers that help us run our website and communications, such as hosting, email, messaging and AI providers. They may process information only for the purposes we agree. We do not sell your personal information.
Travel is international by nature, so your information may be sent to suppliers and authorities in other countries so that your trip can be arranged, and some of our service providers, including AI providers, process information outside South Africa. Where this happens we take reasonable steps to make sure the recipient is bound by law, contract or rules that protect your information to a standard comparable to POPIA, or that the transfer is necessary to perform your booking or is made with your consent.
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information against loss, unauthorised access, or disclosure. Information is retained only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purpose it was collected for, or as required by law.
You have the right to request access to the personal information we hold about you, request correction of inaccurate information, request deletion where we’re not legally required to retain it, withdraw consent where we rely on it, and object to processing in certain circumstances. You may also lodge a complaint with South Africa’s Information Regulator. To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details below.
Our enquiry form uses Google reCAPTCHA to protect it from spam, and our pages load fonts from Google; those providers’ own terms and privacy notices apply. The chat assistant uses your browser’s session storage to keep your conversation together while your browser tab is open, and it does not use cookies for advertising.
